3/4 Ton Band

Are you familiar with the term "Parking Lot Pickers"? You know, that group of people playing music in small groups in the parking lot at a bluegrass festivals or folk festivals that usually sound better than the people on stage? The 3/4 Ton Band have individually been picking in some of the best parking lots around! There are six members; Rick, Scott, Scott, Bob, Gary and Walt that make up the band. Traditional bluegrass, flat-picking, fiddle-tunes, and a few surprises are in store.

Rick Ott plays mandolin. Rick is a native of Newark and has a long history of music playing in local Newark bands since his High School days. He hosts regular bluegrass and old timey jam sessions at his house in Newark. It is from these jam sessions that the 3/4 Ton Band evolved. In his spare time he enjoys building guitars and mandolins with his son in their luthier business.

Scott Gantt plays guitar and has a passion for fiddle tunes and flat-picking. He has attended numerous Flat-picking camps held by Steve Kaufman and the likes and as such has jammed with some of the worlds best flat-pickers.

Scott Andres plays guitar and sings lead and backup vocal.

Bob McEvoy plays dobro and sings lead and backup vocal. Bob has been singing since childhood and for many years in churches throughout the country. Bob has played steel guitar for a number of years and is developing a unique style that blends Steel Guitar and the Dobro sound.

Gary Irving plays bass and sings backup vocal. Gary went to his first blue grass festival in 1980 at Gloryland Park in Delaware. He was so enthused by the music that he ran out and bought his first guitar. A short time later he decided he wanted to play bass. He started with a Guild flattop bass then started playing upright in 1992. Bluegrass and folk music are his passion. Gary is a DJ on the University of Delaware's radio station, WVUD 91.3fm, www.wvud.org. Gary's show is on alternate Mondays mornings as part of the folk music show "ROOTS". A master of puns, and never afraid to use them.

Walt plays guitar and is the lead singer for the group. Walt bought his first guitar when he was 13, but never really concentrated on playing until after he was out of High School. Walt met Lonnie Field in 1983. As a result he has been part of the local music scene for the last 20 or so years, mostly with Lonnie as part of Sandcreek, but also from the bluegrass band, "Shore Grass".
