Fitz & Beach Coffeehouse September 16

This month’s coffee house offers Festival favorites Fitzgerald and Beach in the more intimate setting of the Wesley College Chapel. Opening the evening will be Big Hats and No Cattle, from the Chestertown area. It’ll be only the second event in our new venue, and the first with scheduled performers. The “shakedown cruise” was July’s open mic, which incidentally resulted in two of the performers being offered slots in the October and November coffee house schedule. More about those folks in the months to come.

DC Fitzgerald and Bob Beach have been playing acoustic blues together for nearly 35 years, and it shows in everything they do. DC plays guitar and sings while Bob plays harmonica and flute and adds vocals as well. They employ gospel, R & B, rock & roll, country and of course the blues in both original material and unique arrangements. Bob and DC truly appreciate and complement each other's musical talents.

Festival Update

As I sit down to write this, the festival is exactly one month away. This year has flown by so quickly. It seems that only a short time ago, we were approving a line-up and here it is, time to start putting up the lights. Once again, here is the line-up:

3 pm-Last Train Home
4 pm(on the kids stage)-Crabmeat Thompson

7 pm-Beaucoup Blues

10 pm-Barleyjuice

On Saturday, there will be a drumming workshop/drum circle at 11 am with Spirit Wing, free of charge. At 4 pm, there will be a slide guitar workshop being presented by David Mowry of Beaucoup Blue for a $20 fee per person.

Also, on Saturday from 12 pm to 6 pm, there will be a multitude of activities for the kids including apple bobbing, pumpkin decorating and gunny sack races. The Kids activities are being presented by Small Wonders Montessori school in Dover, with additional sponsorship and support by Gypsy Haven Morgans, Fifer Orchards, Lowe's, and Fordham Brewing (relax, for the kids activities they're supplying the gunny sacks, not beer).

Ticket prices for Friday night are $5 for everyone ages 13 and up. Ticket prices for Saturday are as follows:
Advance members-$20
Advance non-members-$25
At the gate-$30
Children ages 13-18 are half price
Children 12 and under are free

And of course, here is a perfect opportunity to volunteer and save some money. A 5-6 hour commitment of service at the festival will gain you free admission to the festival and an invite to the staff appreciation party. If you are interested in volunteering, contact me at 302-399-6209. We have shifts available on Friday and Saturday this year. Also, there is plenty of work to be done at the festival site every weekend up to the festival where you can put in volunteer hours to earn your admission and invite.

Camping this year is $10 per tent site and $25 per vehicle/trailer/RV. The site will open up to campers on Friday at noon. All campers must vacate the festival site on Sunday.

Let me also take this time to remind you of a few rules to help make our festival safe and enjoyable for everyone.
-No pets allowed.
-No open fires, there will be a community bonfire.
-No glass containers of any kind.
-No littering. Trash barrels and recycling containers are provided throughout the site.
-Camping and/or parking in designated areas only.
-No underage drinking will be tolerated.
-A designated quiet camping area will have a noise curfew of midnight on Friday and Saturday.
-Unsafe horseplay or unacceptable behavior will not be tolerated and those who insist on engaging in such will be escorted off the premises.

Many people have worked hard to bring this festival together to share with you. Please come out and join us on October 6th and 7th and show your support and appreciation for music and the folk community. I look forward to meeting all of you!

Who’s in your family: My husband, Rob, his two kids, Ally and Will, our baby cockatiel, Daisy, and a very large extended family in California that we miss a whole lot and my sister's family in St. Louis.
Hobbies (other than music): spending time with my family, walking/jogging, renn faires
Favorite Type of Music: on the radio most often is country, but what partially landed me here in Delaware is my appreciation for a wide variety of music.
Instruments played (if any): I sing in the shower a lot.
Who you’d most like to see play a Coffeehouse (regardless of the $): Willie Nelson, Richard Thompson or Dr. John (I have been listening a lot to all 3 lately, so I just can't decide.)
Who you’d most like to see play the Festival (regardless of the $): Los Lobos and Taj Mahal. They both play songs I would love to dance with my husband to under the stars out at the farm.
What do you like best about being on the Board Getting to know the board members better and sharing ideas with others.
In your opinion, the best attributes of the Friends of Folk the welcoming and friendly atmosphere the events all have.

Coffeehouses are held at the Wesley Chapel at Wesley College, Division & Bradford Sts., Dover. Very reasonably prices soft drinks, coffee, tea and snacks are available for sale, and the music starts at 7:30pm. Of course, we’re always looking for volunteers to help us out: set-up, clean-up, and sales.
*Pricing is for Members / Non Members. Half price for ages 13-18; Free for Wesley students and children 12 and under.
